This glossary is created with the objective of knowing the terms used in architectural projects, and in turn study them to increase my vocabulary.
Beam
Noun
In engineering and architecture, a beam is a linear structural element that works mainly a flexion. In beams, the length predominates over the other two dimensions and is usually horizontal.
Example: This beam will be supporting the slab, it will serve as vertical and horizontal support

Noun
It is one that is characterized by representing architecture, either as an architectural detail or as an architectural space. It can be expressed the plan, elevation, section, perspective or axonometric perspective.
Example: In the plan the construction process is represented

Coexistence garden
Noun
It is a social space that is mainly intended for leisure activities and for users to interact with each other.
Example: In the Coexistence Garden, some artistic works will be exhibited that will be carried out in the painting workshop

Column
Noun
Rigid architectural support element, taller than wide and usually of cylindrical or polygonal section, which support the horizontal structure of a building, an arch or other construction; it can also constitute by itself a decorative element, a sign, etc.
Example: The column is supporting the slab, that is why it is important.

Concrete pile
Noun
A pile is a constructive element used for the foundation of works, which allows the loads to be transferred to a resistant layer of the soil, when it is at a depth such that it makes a more conventional foundation using footings or slabs unfeasible, technically or economically.
Example: This work requires a foundation with concrete piles, since the soil is very soft.

Curtain walls

The dividing walls are architectural elements that divide or delimit a certain space in a project.
Example: In this space we are going to use a curtain wall, to delimit the area of the living room and the dining room.

Foundation
Noun
Foundation is called the set of structural elements of a structure whose mission is to transmit its loads or elements supported on it to the ground, distributing them in such a way that they do not exceed their allowable pressure or produce zonal loads.
Example: Infrastructure provides a FOUNDATION on which to build a strong nation.

Gravel
Noun
In geology and construction, rocks formed by the clasp between 2 and 64 millimeters in size are called gravel. They can be produced by humans, in which case it is often called "split stone", or the result of natural processes.

Means empty space under construction. The opening refers to the space that is left in the construction work to identify where doors and windows will be located outdoors or indoors or those spaces that are left for natural light to enter.
Example: The main function of this opening is to ventilate the main bedroom.

Parking is equivalent to parking and it is a concept used to mention the location of vehicles when they are no longer in circulation. In the public space of cities there are areas for parking.

Reinforcing rods
Noun
It is the set of steel rods that are used to take the internal tensile forces that are generated by the application of loads, contraction due to setting and changes in temperature, in a hydraulic concrete structure; they can be smooth or corrugated rods.
Example: The reinforcing rods are rusted, they must be changed so that they do not affect the structure.

A structural system is the physical model or body that serves as a framework for the structural elements, and that reflects a way of working. An object can have, in turn, a mixture of structural systems. They can be classified by their field of action, work system and material.

The structure is the arrangement and order of the parts within a whole It can also be understood as a system of coherent linked concepts, whose objective is to specify the essence of the object of study.
Example: The structure of this house is damaged, we have to reinforce the elements.

It is that which serves as a support, a sustaining element, which receives the weight or on which new ideas, forms and opportunities for action are supported.
Example: This support will not withstand the vertical loads of the slab, it is necessary to improve it

Noun
A wall is a vertical masonry work that limits an architectural space. Its geometric shape is usually prismatic and its horizontal and vertical dimensions are significantly greater than its thickness.
Example: This wall collapsed because it wasn't strong enough

A wire mesh is a crisscrossing arrangement of evenly spaced metal strands, similar to a cloth or net in that it has many strands attached or woven together.
Example: The foundation must have a wire mesh structure to provide greater resistance.

Workshop is the space in which a work is carried out, manual in its origin, either of the artisanal or industrial type.
